Created at MIT in 2007 by Matthew Hockenberry, Leonardo Bonanni, David Zwarg, and professors Hiroshi Ishii and Chris Csikszentmihályi in a collaboration between the MIT Center for Civic Media and the Tangible Media Group, Sourcemap was designed as a platform for sharing open supply chains and evaluating social and environmental impact.

Since graduating MIT, some of the project members have formed a company. You can find more information about its current operations at sourcemap.com. The open source You can also see a more historic video of an early (2012) iteration of the project’s development below:
